Greetings from Rod Herbert. Crazy days ahead ......

"It was the night before" .......... Trial HSC Music Aural Exam .........

Here is the link to the Classroom Music Teacher Aural Analysis Resource page!

I am looking forward to substantially delving deeply into this area of music education in my upcoming posts

These are the useful links and material that i use every day in my music classroom especially elective music classes and HSC Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension class.

Her we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.............................................................................

Share these with your students. Don't wait until year 11 or 12 or 9 10 elective classes.

Embed this material into your students brains and ears now!

Year 7 Year 8 Year 6. Year 5. Music Class and all Bands and Ensembles.

Use the music metalanguage everywhere including Band rehearsals and classrooms!

The aural analysis questions remain the same but the complexity of the students answers should increase dramatically.

1- CONCEPTS OF MUSIC - Put The Toilet Seat Down Dude

Remember to encourage our students to use the anagram for the CONCEPTS of MUSIC at the front of their exam paper!

Put - PITCH

The - TEXTURE

Toilet - TONE COLOUR

Seat - STRUCTURE

Down - DURATION (rhythm)

Dude - DYNAMICS

(expressive techniques )

2- OUTLINE MAPS

First two playing of the exam write out the song structure OUTLINE MAP describing the main musical features of each section.

What happens with each CONCEPT of MUSIC in each section.

3- MUSICAL NOTATION - Lots of short musical rhythmic and melodic riffs.

Describe what you can hear. If you are not confident in notation have a go anyway! Think fast and slow rhythms patterns for a starting point

4- I Q - IDENTIFY QUANTIFY

Use lots of CORRECT musical terminology and Italian musical terminology.

5- GENRE GENRE GENRE GENRE

Listen to everything you can

6- PLAY YOUR STUDENTS an A440 note every lesson. Get them to sing!

Sing and play all diatonic intervals and chromatic intervals going up and going down!

Relax and Stay Cool
